It was rumored several months ago that Alberto Del Rio was unhappy with his position on WWE television and that was before anything happened with Paige or with the brand extension.
Apparently, Del Rio was promised a lot more than a run with the United States title, a role in the League of Nations, and having good matches in the midcard when he resigned with WWE last October.
According to a report from Wrestlezone.com, Del Rio’s relationship with WWE went sour after the promises that were made to him when he signed didn’t come to pass.
The original plans for Del Rio’s latest run in WWE was for him to get Paul Heyman as a mouth piece and he would have received a main event push.
Del Rio was meant to be the next Hispanic babyface superstar in WWE to replace Rey Mysterio, but Kalisto’s brief run at the end of 2015 changed some minds.
Alberto Del Rio was apparently a “Vince McMahon Guy,” but when the Heyman pairing didn’t happen, Zeb Colter was brought in to be his manager, which failed on WWE television for a number of reasons.
Rather than try something else with Del Rio, McMahon just moved on to the next project, which is why Del Rio has essentially been floating around for the past several months.
Do you think Alberto Del Rio was given a fair chance in WWE over the past year?
