The “Roman Empire” continues his reign at the top.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated has released their annual list of the Top 500 Superstars in the world of professional wrestling, and Roman Reigns has been awarded the coveted #1 spot on the list. This is most like due to his three WWE World Heavyweight Championship runs over the year, along with main eventing WrestleMania for the second straight year.

The Top 10 wrestlers are as follows:

  1. Roman Reigns
  2. Kazuchika Okada
  3. Finn Bálor
  4. A.J. Styles
  5. Jay Lethal
  6. Kevin Owens
  7. Shinsuke Nakamura
  8. Seth Rollins
  9. Dean Ambrose
  10. John Cena

After finding out that he was award the top spot on this prestigious list, Reigns commented:

“Thank you, man. It’s crazy. Last year, was I what, three or four? To just remain in that same company, to be in that class with those guys, it’s world class,” he said. “It’s a great honor and it goes with a lot of hard work. It’s very flattering. It just shows that if you keep your head down and stick to your day-to-day, you grind it out and take the long road, good things happen. It’s a great achievement and another great accolade.”

The evaluation period for the list was July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016.

Editor’s Note:

While this might not be the most popular choice, you cannot argue with the year that Reigns had. As mentioned, he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship three times, as well as was in the main event of WrestleMania this year. He was also the main focal point of the company for the better half of the entire evaluation period. Love him or hate him, Roman Reigns had a tremendous year in professional wrestling, and deserves this prestigious honor.
