It was previously reported that Alberto Del Rio had an escape clause in his contract that would allow him to back out of his deal, should he feel it necessary. It would seem that “Mexico’s Greatest Export” has in fact, left the warehouse.

According to a report from Wrestling Inc., Del Rio is officially finished with WWE, and will not be returning to the company. He let the company know 60 days ago, through his lawyer, that this was the case.

Del Rio was incredibly frustrated with his position in WWE, and was promised certain things that never came to fruition. Upon his return to the company at the 2015 “Hell in a Cell” pay-per-view, he was told he would be given a main event push. However, he was instead put in angles that didn’t go anywhere, such as the Mex-America angle with Zeb Colter, and the League of Nations stable with Wade Barrett, Rusev and Sheamus.

The wrestling universe most recently saw Del Rio in the news following his 30-day suspension from WWE, for his first violation of the company’s wellness policy. On the same day, his real life girlfriend, Paige, was also suspended for a wellness policy violation.

We will continue to monitor this story, and bring you updates as they become available to us.

Editor’s Note:

This is a very good thing on many levels. While I’ve enjoyed Del Rio’s work for many years, he is not a good fit for WWE. I think that he will make a lot of money on the independent scene and have a good life doing that.
