This Sunday at “Payback”, Roman Reigns will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles in the most unpredictable match on the card.
The possibilities in the match are endless. Styles could turn heel. Finn Balor could make his debut on the main roster. Most likely, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows will interfere and set up a feud between them and Styles.
No matter what happens, it seems most results of the match are going to leave Roman Reigns without a follow-up, and he’ll be looking for another opponent for the WWE Championship on Monday Night Raw next week.
Meanwhile, Sami Zayn is finally getting a match with Kevin Owens since returning from injury, but it doesn’t have the same fire that it did in NXT. In a perfect world, Owens vs. Zayn would feud through Summerslam at least, but it’s very likely WWE will give Zayn the win on Sunday and then everyone will move onto the next thing.
If that’s the case, WWE should strongly consider booking Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns. In my opinion, it’s the perfect feud for both men and the best possible way to bring balance to WWE right now.
After Wrestlemania 32, Reigns is getting booed out of every building he is walking into, and it’s making him look bad as the WWE Champion. What he needs is a strong heel that is going to challenge him in the ring and make it easier for the WWE Universe to hate someone even more than they dislike him right now.
Kevin Owens is that guy. He’s the most consistent heel on the roster and can definitely put over Reigns as a face and as the WWE Champion. Not to mention, he’d get a rub from being in the world title picture.
If people are worried about Owens losing to Zayn at “Payback” and then being thrust into the WWE title picture, the exact same thing just happened to AJ Styles after Wrestlemania, and no one is complaining about that.
WWE is going full steam ahead with Roman Reigns as “the guy”. In my opinion, he needs to be put against “real” heels that could soften the people up to Roman and bring a better balance between the WWE Universe and what the WWE wants for the product.
Do you want to see Owens vs. Reigns for the WWE Championship after “Payback?”
