The 2015 WWE Slammy Award for the Breakout Star of the Year has selected the following men and women as the nominees:

It’ll be really interesting to see if one of these wrestlers wins more than one Slammy. It would be especially appropriate for Kevin Owens given his influence, Owen Hart was a “two-time” Slammy winner.

No offense to Braun Strowman, Neville, and Tyler Breeze. I like every single one of them, but they haven’t been game changers in WWE at any point of 2015. Charlotte and Kevin Owens have been big time game changers this year.

For me, I have no issue with the award going to Charlotte. However, the Slammy should go to Kevin Owens.

It’s hard to believe that exactly a year ago, Kevin Owens had JUST debuted in NXT. Within a year, Owens took down Sami Zayn, became NXT Champion, debuted on the WWE main roster, but he also confronted John Cena on his first night and defeated him in his first match at “Elimination Chamber”.

After that, Owens feuded with John Cena for the next three months and put on a great trilogy with Cena before winning the Intercontinental Championship a few months later. Owens JUST lost the IC title to Dean Ambrose last week and is deadlocked in getting it back as he enters 2016.

2015 was the year of Kevin Owens in many ways. If all fans thought like smart fans, Kevin Owens would probably be the Superstar of the Year too. Charlotte stopped Nikki Bella’s title reign and brought back the Flair name, but Owens only debuted a year ago in WWE.

We’re in the Kevin Owens show now. It’s going to be extremely interesting to see where he goes next.
