Rusev has been one of WWE’s best heels over the past three years. His run hasn’t been perfect, but he’s overcome a lot of hits to his momentum and a year of obscurity, but he’s been able to remain a strong heel after two different United States title runs.
He’s not going to get the proper credit he deserves because he ended up dropping the title to John Cena and Roman Reigns, who will get the spotlight put on them, but Rusev has done excellent work for the US title’s prestige over the past few years.
The feud with Reigns is over after “Hell in a Cell.” He’s also been there and done that with the US title. It’s time to look at what’s next for him. After feuding with WWE’s “guy” and looking strong despite losing, is now the time for Rusev to enter the main event?
Rusev put over Goldberg last night on Raw in the opening segment. That’s fine because it was about establishing the latter for the match with Brock Lesnar, but Rusev could be pushed into the main event scene. There are some complications, but he could be ready.
Kevin Owens is the top heel and Raw’s top champion, so Rusev will have to wait awhile, but there is no question he can hang with anyone in WWE. He’s definitely over as a heel, so the question is when he will be ready for the WWE title picture, not if.
Do you believe Rusev is ready to be in the main event?
