The WWE Universe can confidently say that WWE officials have fumbled the debut of the Authors of Pain on the main roster. Their main roster debut was delayed until after WrestleMania 34, but the first problem was dumping Paul Ellering for no reason. After a few weeks on Raw, the pair remained off television until it killed all their momentum.

WWE officials believed it was better to keep Akam and Rezar off WWE television rather than have them look weaker against other teams. Their intentions were good, but it left them without direction and made them seem unimportant. Now, WWE is pushing them with 205 Live’s General Manager Drake Maverick as their manager, which is random.
The WWE Universe has been questioning how Maverick can be an on-screen presence for 205 Live and the manager of AOP. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials are actively looking for a new General Manager for 205 Live outside of the company. That means Drake is locking down his role with AOP.
One of the names being rumored to replace Drake Maverick is Mike Tenay of WCW and TNA fame. Most fans would like to see someone like Rey Mysterio take on the role, but it seems clear that WWE officials want to pick someone who won’t step into the ring. That also sets a precedent that Maverick could be wrestling alongside AOP going forward.
Initially, the pairing of Drake Maverick with the Authors of Pain seems very random. On paper, most people believe that WWE should have brought back Paul Ellering if the idea was to give them a manager. However, it seems the powers that be are locking in on the idea of Maverick as their manager so there’s something happening there that they like.
