“Rusev Day” was a phenomenon. It was something so simple and silly that it should not have gotten over like it did for Rusev. Much of the credit for its success should be given to Aiden English. His presentation and part in the gimmick made it fun an that’s what a lot of fans responded to for months. Unfortunately, their run has come to a bitter end.

It made sense for Aiden English to turn against Rusev. The problem is that the match on SmackDown Live last week seems to be the end of their feud. The Bulgarian Brute got a bit of retribution and that’s all she wrote. Rusev has the chance to move onto something else, but there’s a lot of doubt about where English is heading for the rest of his career.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio, the expectation is that English is being buried and won’t be doing anything significant on WWE television. Dave Meltzer is basing this on how short the match between English and Rusev was on SmackDown Live. English’s credibility as a threat isn’t very high if he can be discarded that easily.

All due respect, but WWE officials have never booked Aiden English to be this massive physical threat. That’s working against him because the singing gimmick is hard enough to get over. The WWE Universe could have a hard time buying the smaller singing heel as a physical threat to a top babyface. Aiden English hasn’t been presented in that light.

Rusev vs. Aiden English: SmackDown LIVE, Oct. 23, 2018

There’s still time to change the perception around English on SmackDown Live. After all the hard work he did with Rusev, Aiden deserves more than a one-minute squash match to just head to the back of the line. However, WWE officials need to strike fast with him.

Do you believe Aiden English can be a strong heel on SmackDown Live?
