Unfortunately, Wade Barrett is still feeling the effects of this decision today.

The Nexus was the hottest stable since Evolution ran WWE. Their debut was jaw dropping. Their dominance was absolute, and Barrett had emerged from winning the first NXT competition to becoming a new face to challenge John Cena for the top spot in WWE.

At Summerslam 2010, it was Nexus vs. Team Cena. Team Cena would prevail, but the damage was done. Nexus lost a ton of momentum and dominance as a result of the loss.

The Nexus could have been a stable to have members coming in and out, but remaining dominant as this generation’s nWo. This loss stopped that from happening and more mistakes led to the Nexus’ slow demise and Barrett’s never reached his full potential after the tragedy of Summerslam.
