If WCW and WWF had done a mutual PPV crossover in 1999 or 2000, those PPV numbers would still be unmatched by any other wrestling event in history. WCW versus WWE was the biggest draw in the industry.

In 2001, there would be a WCW vs. WWF storyline, but because of contracts with Time Warner, there were significant wrestlers of WCW missing. WWE either wouldn’t or couldn’t buy out the contracts due to the extremely high salaries, but they would have made all that money back in PPV buys and merchandise.

What WCW vs. WWF became was a three month tryout for talent, instead of a genuine WCW vs. WWF finale that it deserved to be. Guys like Kurt Angle and Stone Cold would complicate the storyline by changing sides. Instead of Austin vs. Hogan, Sting vs. The Rock or even Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle, WCW vs. WWF became a mess of what was the greatest time in wrestling history.
