It’s part of the production. There is a lot more that goes into a wrestling show than just the wrestling. Wrestlers are going to do the majority of the work, but there is also the production side of things, which includes all kinds of moving parts. Some of these might be more prominent than others, but one of the main aspects is the sound, which was in a unique place on Sunday.
Since the spread of the Coronavirus, WWE has had the unique situation of not being able to have fans in attendance for their shows. This creates a host of problems, with one of the biggest being the lack of atmosphere. Without fans in the building, you are only going to get so much in the way of emotion on the show. WWE has tried to remedy this with NXT wrestlers as an audience, but then they tried something else.
During this Sunday’s Backlash pay per view main event between Edge and Randy Orton, recorded audio of a large audience was played. The announcers mentioned that the match would feature enhanced audio among other various production techniques, including special camera angles. WWE has used canned audio before on taped shows, though they have never advertised it as being used.
Maybe you can hear it. Check out the match in question:
Opinion: You can see both sides of this. On one hand, it makes sense to try and add in some extra noise, just for the sake of atmosphere. At the same time though, it is a bit hard to accept so much noise coming from such a small group of people. It is made even worse when you know how the crowd sounds throughout the rest of the show. I see why WWE does it, but it’s a bit too much to take.
