WWE’s Backup Plan If Rey Mysterio Doesn’t Re-Sign

He could fill in a spot. WWE has all of the talent that it could want at the moment, but at the same time, you have to figure out how to put that talent together in the right order. If things aren’t done properly, the amount of talent that you have doesn’t make that much of a difference. One of the bigger stars in the company isn’t doing much right now, but WWE has an idea in mind for him.

Over the last two months, the Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins feud has been one of the biggest stories on Monday Night Raw. The story has seen Rollins wanting to sacrifice Mysterio for the greater good, which has included taking out Mysterio’s eye. That is a heck of a personal feud and WWE seems to have the next step planned for Rollins, which could be a big change of pace.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Owens returning to WWE after going on hiatus due to worries about the Coronavirus was a relief for the company. Since Mysterio is currently working without a contract, Owens is seen as the replacement in the feud against Rollins should Mysterio leave. There is no word on if Owens vs. Rollins will take place whether Mysterio re-signs or not. Owens pinned Rollins on Monday Night Raw.

Opinion: This is a logical move from WWE and something that they should be doing in such a situation. Mysterio is a big star and he’s in a big story, but at the end of the day, he has no contract. That makes it a real possibility that he might not be around until the ending and there is nothing that WWE could reasonably do about it. Owens works as well as anyone else in the spot and it wouldn’t shock me to see Owens vs. Rollins take place, even if Mysterio sticks around.
