WWE Signs Former Evolve Champion

Nice to meet you. There are all kinds of wrestling promotions around the world and thanks to the internet and streaming video, fans from anywhere can see whatever and whomever they want. That opens up a lot of opportunities that were not there before and thankfully a lot of wrestlers these days are able to take advantage of those opportunities. Now another one is on his way to WWE.

One of the interesting stories that flew under the radar last year was the demise of Evolve Wrestling, which was one of the better independent promotions going. WWE had done some business with them as kind of an unofficial minor league and following the company’s closing, several of its wrestlers made the jump. That is the case again as WWE has made another signing.

According to PWInsider.com, WWE has signed Anthony Henry to a contract. Henry, thirty six years old, is a former Evolve Tag Team Champion and has wrestled around the southeastern part of the United States since debuting in 2002. Henry’s final independent match is likely scheduled to take place on February 12, meaning he will likely report to the Performance Center in late February or early March.

Opinion: Good for Henry, as someone who has wrestled for the better part of twenty years finally making it to the big time is a pretty cool moment. It’s a shame that Evolve went under, but it’s great to see some of these wrestlers getting the chance to move on to a bigger stage. Henry worked well in Evolve and if that is the case again in NXT, everything should be fine.
