It’s been nice company. One of the things that wrestling fans like to do is deem someone the next of something. It might be the next Shawn Michaels, the next Steve Austin, the next Ric Flair or whatever else. That’s true with commentators as well, with The Next Jim Ross being a popular moniker. It’s a little hard to be the next of something when the original is still there…or at least he was.
On the latest episode of his Jim Ross Report podcast, Jim Ross has announced that he will be leaving WWE when his contract expires on March 29 under mutual agreement. Ross went on to say that he still wants to do play by play and feels that he will not be out of work long. Ross returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33 and has been used very sparingly since, with his last on-camera appearance coming at last April’s Greatest Royal Rumble.
Here’s one of those calls you might remember. Check out….oh you know what this is:
Opinion: There’s a good chance you didn’t realize Ross was still with WWE and that’s not the biggest surprise in the world. Ross is the kind of guy who has been around for so long but hasn’t been used much lately that it’s easy to forget about him. That’s a shame as he’s someone with incredible value just from a consultant perspective, but I can also understand that WWE may feel time has passed him by. Hopefully he finds something better in the future and we get to hear him again.
