The big surprise. There were a lot of expectations coming into the first episode of AEW Dynamite. The show was pretty stacked and there were all kinds of things that were going to be taking place on the big night. As many things as were announced in advance, there was always room for a surprise or two and the biggest one of them all came at the end of the show.
After Chris Jericho, Santana and Ortiz won the main event by defeating Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, a brawl broke out involving Cody, Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes. Jake Hager, formerly known as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger, came in and helped Jericho and company in the beatdown. Hager is also currently fighting as a mixed martial artist with Bellator and it is not clear if working with AEW will impact his MMA career.
It was a nice surprise. Check out the debut and beatdown:
Opinion: This is the kind of a debut that works well for a debut episode. Hager isn’t the biggest star in the world but he’s someone a lot of fans are going to know and recognize. Above all else he looks rather different, as AEW doesn’t have too many large wrestlers. By being so different physically, he’s going to stand out more and that’s something AEW could use.
Do you like Hager as the surprise? What do you see him doing in AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
