That might get some people talking. For the first time in a good while, WWE is fighting some actual competition to its dominance of the wrestling world. While it may not be a huge deal at the moment, AEW Dynamite is pretty handily defeating NXT in the ratings and viewership numbers on Wednesday nights. There isn’t much of a precedent for this and WWE is not used to being in this position. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t know what they were doing, which is why they ran a big angle to close this week’s show.
It was a big surprise. Check out how the show ended:
This week’s NXT ended with a showdown between Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa against the Undisputed Era. Balor turned on Gargano though and laid him out, including a 1916 spike DDT onto the steel ramp. Gargano was unconscious to end the show, but the evening did not end there. After the show went off the air, Gargano was taken out on a stretcher, with General Manager William Regal helping him to the ambulance. Gargano’s wife Candice LeRae and Ciampa left with him in the ambulance, which pulled away to end the clip.
But they weren’t done yet. Check out the post show video:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could help NXT a lot, even though a lot of fans probably didn’t see the show due to the World Series airing. Therefore, having it air on the WWE Network on Thursday helps quite a bit and maybe the angle can give NXT a little boost. They aren’t exactly getting crushed so far and a hot angle could improve things quite a bit. It isn’t like they need some miracle to save them at the moment so at least we are getting something interesting that could help them in a few ways.
