That’s some high praise. Vince McMahon is the ultimate power in all of wrestling and will be until he is gone. There is no one who could catch up to his level of influence as he runs the largest and most valuable wrestling promotion in the world. McMahon has promoted and helped create some of the biggest stars ever so anything he says is going to be worth something in one way or another. Therefore, his praise means a lot and a recent match received just that.
One of the biggest stories on SmackDown over the last few weeks has been Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus. The story has been built around Sheamus not being too fond of Hardy’s big return after all of his legal and substance abuse issues. This has led to a pair of matches with a third one on the horizon. One of the first matches got McMahon’s attention in a very positive way.
Over the weekend, WWE released a new edition of their Chronicle series, looking at Hardy’s return to the company. During the special, a clip was shown of Hardy and Sheamus coming through the curtain after their match at Backlash. McMahon was sitting in the gorilla position and praised the match, saying “That was f****** awesome! Holy s***!” Sheamus defeated Hardy to even their series, with a third match coming on Sunday at Extreme Rules.
This got the boss’ attention. Check out the match from Backlash:
Opinion: I liked the match well enough, but McMahon giving a match that kind of praise is not something that you see very often. Hardy has always been a top star and Sheamus has a heck of a career of his own. That is a rather strong pairing for one match and hopefully the two of them get to do it again at Extreme Rules, even with the special Bar Fight stipulation.
