You probably can buy that kind of publicity. If there is one thing that WWE knows how to do, it is promote itself. That is the kind of thing that they have excelled at for years now and they have turned it into a near art form. WWE has made themselves into the thing that people think of when they think of wrestling and as a result, they are going to be on fans’ minds in a hurry. That was the case on a fairly big show this week.
There are certain names in wrestling that are going to be known by people who aren’t even fans of the sport. That kind of thing can be very valuable to any wrestling company, as anyone would want to have that kind of publicity. It is a pretty rare feat to pull off, but it can give your company some awesome exposure. If you can get a bonus name out of it, that’s even better.
Both the Undertaker and Triple H were mentioned during Thursday’s episode of the Daily Show. Host Trevor Noah was interviewing Jon Stewart about his new film Irresistible, with Noah making a comparison to part of the film being like Undertaker, but then finding out that Undertaker is just a normal person who rides around with Triple H. Stewart then spoke briefly about Undertaker, including his WrestleMania winning streak and the loss to Brock Lesnar. Stewart is a longtime WWE fan and has been involved in multiple angles.
It was a surprise mention. Check out the interview (the WWE portion begins at 7:50), plus some of Stewart’s time in WWE:
Opinion: This might not be the biggest story in the world but it is certainly something cool to see. The best thing about something like this is hearing it from someone who is clearly a big fan, as knowing not only who the Undertaker is but also about the Streak and Lesnar is a cool thing on a more mainstream show. We always hear about things like this on wrestling shows, but what about a place like this? It’s a cool thing to see and that’s a nice feeling.
