She had to say something. There are always going to be controversies in wrestling. While they may not seem like it, wrestlers are humans as well and that means things are always going to cause some issues, both in the ring and behind the scenes. Some of these are worse than others and in this case, the controversy came just before the biggest moment of a wrestler’s career.
Over the weekend, Impact Wrestling’s Tessa Blanchard sent out a tweet, asking female wrestlers to encourage each other. This resulted in a severe backlash from other female wrestlers, who talked about various things that Blanchard had said and done over the years, including bully, spitting on another wrestler and accusations of using racial slurs. This came a day before Blanchard was scheduled to challenge for the Impact Wrestling World Title, so something had to be done.
On Sunday at Hard To Kill, Blanchard pinned Sami Callihan to become the new Impact Wrestling World Champion. After the show was over, Blanchard addressed the crowd and vaguely referenced the situation, saying that “nobody in this life is perfect” before talking about how she is the World Champion and represents everyone in the locker room. There is no word on any potential punishment for Blanchard.
It was quite the speech. Check out Blanchard’s post show comments:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to make of this. Blanchard seems to have done something pretty bad but Impact Wrestling put the title on her anyway. I’m not sure how long Blanchard is going to hold the title but the amount of backlash against her might cause some issues. Maybe this whole thing blows over in a few days, but it is certainly worth keeping an eye on for the next little while.
Do you think Blanchard will be punished? How long will she hold the title? Let us know in the comments below.
