Tis the season. With less than two days to go before the Royal Rumble, it is time to start everything moving forward towards the show. That is one of the more complicated things to do, because so many people are going to want to win the Royal Rumble but at the same time, only some of the wrestlers involved in the Royal Rumble are available on SmackDown. That was different this time around.
One of the biggest appeals of the Royal Rumble is the idea of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown facing off against each other. There are very few instances of this happening in a year and it is a fairly interesting concept. It makes sense in this case as everyone is going to want to get a World Title shot at WrestleMania. Some of the wrestlers involved wanted to get a head start this week.
This week’s edition of SmackDown saw several Monday Night Raw stars appearing on the show as they tried to build themselves up for Sunday’s Royal Rumble. The Monday Night Raw stars included AJ Styles, the Miz, John Morrison, Sheamus and the returning Braun Strowman who appeared at the end of the show. Styles, Miz and Morrison all wrestled in the main event, which started as a singles match, turned into a six man tag and finished as a ten man tag. Strowman appeared at the end and cleared the ring.
This was kind of wild. Check out all three matches:
Opinion: This is one of those things that happens almost every year but it still works out rather well almost every time. There is something about having wrestlers from both shows wanting the same thing and going after it. Of course it kind of defeats the purpose of the Brand Split, but at least it offers something special on the way to one of the biggest nights of the year
