It’s still tournament time! With the Mae Young Classic coming up, WWE will have run five major tournaments this year alone with the Mae Young Classic, the Cruiserweight Title Tournament, the Mixed Match Challenge, the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and the United Kingdom Championship Tournament. That’s not even counting the multiple tournaments held over WrestleMania weekend. Well, believe it or not, there is now another one being added.
The boss has spoken.
In a video posted to Twitter, SmackDown Live General Manager Paige has announced a four team tournament to crown new #1 contenders to the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. While no specific matches have been announced, the four teams will be the New Day, Sanity, the Bar and the Usos. No date has been announced for the first round but the winners will be facing the Bludgeon Brothers for the titles at Summerslam.
Opinion: As you might have been able to tell, I’m getting a little tired of the tournaments to crown #1 contenders and champions. Is it really too much to ask to have some personal issues between a champion and a challenger and have a match come out of it as a result? At least the Bar is back after their “creative has nothing for you” exile, though I would be surprised if they made it out of the first round.
