They might be in too? The wrestling world is pretty lopsided when you think about it. You have WWE on one end and then there is pretty much everything else on the other side. Like it or not, WWE is the biggest and strongest professional wrestling company the world. That opens up several more doors for them, but this time around they might want to open it themselves.
The biggest story of the week in wrestling came at the end of this week’s AEW Dynamite. Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to become the new AEW World Champion, but not without some help from Don Callis. After spending the night praising Omega, Callis went so far as to interfere in the match to help Omega win the title. The two then ran off to a waiting car, where Callis said there would be more answers next week on Impact Wrestling. WWE was asked about something similar and had a surprising response.
WWE COO Triple H held a media conference call to discuss this weekend’s NXT Takeover: WarGames. During the call, a reporter asked about WWE potentially having working relationships with smaller companies, similar to what they have done with promotions like Progress and Evolve, with the Impact Wrestling/AEW relationship being mentioned. Triple H said that WWE was open for business for such a situation, but it would have to be something that is beneficial to WWE in the long term, meaning several years down the line.
WWE has dealt with invasions before. Check out some of the bigger moments:
Opinion: I’d have to believe it when I saw it with this as WWE does not seem to be the kind of a promotion that would want to do something significant with one of the bigger promotions. I could see them throwing a bone to another promotion for a chance to pick up their video library (like Evolve) but other than that, it is hard to imagine WWE opening their doors to anyone. You can never say never in wrestling, but this sounds unlikely.
