They had a path forward. Things are not quite normal in WWE at the moment and I’m not sure how long that is going to be the case. With the company only running shows at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida thanks to concerns over the Coronavirus, there is only so much that can be done. Couple that with the fact that several wrestlers are not coming to the shows and it is no surprise that things are rather slow right now. One certain wrestler not coming is putting a specific storyline on hold.
WrestleMania 36 saw several title matches taking place over the course of two nights. Some titles changes hands while others did not, but having those title matches on the biggest show of the year made things all the more interesting. That level of interest is not unique to just WrestleMania though, which is why some of the stories were scheduled to continue.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn’s feud with Daniel Bryan was scheduled to continue after WrestleMania 36. However, the feud has been put on hold since Zayn has chosen to stay home rather than come to WWE TV due to health concerns over the Coronavirus. There is no word on when Zayn will return or whether the feud will continue once he does.
The two have something to settle. Check out their WrestleMania match:
Opinion: I can’t say I blame him. On the one hand, Zayn certainly has the right to stay away if he thinks his health is in jeopardy. That is a very legitimate worry and something that is going to be a reality for a long time to come. At the same time, WWE probably needs to do something when Zayn is the reigning Intercontinental Champion. You can’t have the title sitting around on the shelf for months at a time. Something needs to be changed, though I’m not sure what they will do.
