The numbers don’t lie (very often). There are a lot of changes going on in WWE at the moment and that is the kind of thing that can cause a mixture of good and bad things. Some of the time, fans like seeing things switched up as you can get some fresh stories and rivalries going. However, there are only so many things that you can make work if the fresh stories just are not good. There are some stories are going on in the new era of WWE that are not exactly striking a chord with the most vocal fans, but at the same time there are other fans who certainly seem interested.
Over the course of October, one of the bigger stories on Monday Night Raw has been the dissolution of Rusev and Lana’s marriage, with Lana having a public affair with Bobby Lashley. Several fans have not been pleased with the story and, according to 411mania.com, this week’s Monday Night Raw, which was built around an update on the story, saw the audience plummet in the third hour when the angle was to be featured. However, there was another audience that had some better numbers.
But first, the video, check out what people aren’t happy with seeing:
As of early Wednesday morning, the video of the segment on WWE’s YouTube page has been viewed 4.1 million times. To put this in perspective, this is more than three times the second most popular video from this week’s Monday Night Raw. The total number of views of every video from the show, including backstage footage, is 4.8 million views. The video of Lana, Rusev and Lashley is the most viewed WWE video since Tyson Fury’s debut on October 4, which has had three weeks to build as opposed to just over twenty four hours, meaning that this week’s video could easily to Fury’s debut.
Opinion: This is something that has to be factored in when someone just looks at ratings and audience numbers. While it is true that the television audience does not seem interested in what WWE is offering, there certainly is a group of people who want to see what is going on. With that being the case, it makes a bit more sense to continue pushing this story on television. It puts things in a bit better perspective and shows that there is a different audience than just what is watching on television. Now the TV audience is bigger and normally watches longer than an internet audience, but they should be considered.
