We’ll call that Plan B. One of the biggest stories of the wrestling year has been the WWE’s issues in Saudi Arabia last week. The company went from seemingly getting a big check for a controversial show to possibly not getting paid for the show and not even being able to leave the country when they were trying to get out. Couple that with most of the roster missing the following night’s SmackDown and there are very few stories that are on this level. It was such a surprise that WWE had to make some last minute changes, one of which was a very big deal.
This week on SmackDown, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman opened the show with a special announcement. Heyman explained that due to what happened at Crown Jewel, Lesnar was wanting to get his hands on Rey Mysterio, even though Mysterio was a member of the Monday Night Raw roster. Therefore, Lesnar was quitting SmackDown and going to Monday Night Raw to deal with Mysterio, with not even Vince McMahon to stop him. This also served as a way to move one of the World Titles over to Monday Night Raw, but there was another detail to the story.
It was a big moment. Check out Lesnar leaving SmackDown:
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the Lesnar and Heyman segment was thrown together at the last minute as the two of them were some of the only major names available for the show. Therefore, the two of them were sent out to open the show with a major announcement. The idea of Lesnar moving over to Monday Night Raw was something that would be happening later on but it had to be rushed due to all of the chaos that took place last week. There is no word on when any potential match between Lesnar and Mysterio will take place.
But how did we get here? Check out what set Mysterio off after Lesnar:
Opinion: I’m not surprised that this happened as the whole thing is such a mess that something big would have to happen. Lesnar moving over is something that could change a lot of things on both shows, which might be just what was needed. WWE shook things up a lot by having Bray Wyatt win the Universal Title at Crown Jewel so one of the champions had to go. Lesnar can do several things on Monday Night Raw and Wyatt can do the same on SmackDown, so this is a good move for everyone, except for Draft enthusiasts as the Draft is messed up less than a month after it was put into place.
