Makes sense. The WWE women’s division has come a long way in a short while and that is a good thing for a lot of people involved. Long gone are the days of having the women out there for nothing but their looks with wrestling being the fourth or fifth most important thing for them. Now it is much more about in-ring abilities and character work, which explains why someone is getting an upcoming title shot.

Earlier this year, Becky Lynch stepped away from WWE after announcing that she was pregnant. Lynch was undoubtedly the biggest star in the division and one of the biggest in the company, leaving quite the big hole to fill for the women. It was clear that someone would need to step up and while a few names have done that, things were made even worse when Charlotte stepped away as well. Therefore, someone is being brought into the title picture and there is a reason why.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sasha Banks is challenging Asuka for the Raw Women’s Title at Extreme Rules because there is no one else to put in the spot. Asuka has defeated Nia Jax and at the moment, the division does not have another viable challenger. Banks is officially a SmackDown wrestler, but as one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions, is allowed to appear on both shows.

The two have met before. Check out the heck of a match that they had:

Opinion: This makes sense in theory, but it also tells you that Shayna Baszler is in big trouble on the main roster. She has not been seen in weeks now and would seem to be the perfect fit for this spot. Barring some kind of medical issue, there is little reason to have hope for her at the moment. If WWE would rather bring in a challenger from the other show instead of using Baszler, what exactly is their plan for her?
