I’d call it a plan. One of the biggest stories to come out of last week was WWE moving into the Amway Center. That may not sound all that strange, but there will be no fans in the building for more than two months, but there will be a lot of digital fans shown watching the shows from their homes. You can imagine how this is going to wind up going but WWE has some backup plans just in case.
As you might have guessed, some of the fans have not been playing nice from their homes. This has included holding up signs and photos demanding that WWE fire Velveteen Dream, a picture of Chris Benoit and various things that aren’t even as nice as those. That isn’t the kind of material that WWE will want airing on their television broadcast so something had to be done. It turns out that WWE has a plan in mind.
According to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com by way of NoDQ.com, WWE’s plan for Payback is to have fans that have earned the company’s trust on display in the lower half of the arena. Any fans who are not as well known to the company will still be seen, though not directly on camera for the majority of the show. There is no word on if this will be the way that WWE handles the situation going forward.
The set has done well so far. Check out how it has looked in the first few shows:
Opinion: I’m surprised they didn’t do something like this before, but there comes a point where you can’t completely screen everyone. This is one of the best solutions to the problem that they can have as there has to be some kind of a way to protect WWE from fans who are trying to make a point. It’s a risky play in general, but it’s a heck of a lot better than having no one in the stands but employees.
What do you think of the plan? How should WWE run their events? Let us know in the comments below.
