I wouldn’t hinder him. Last week, Jinder Mahal became #1 contender to the Smackdown World Title in a pretty big surprise. Mahal had never been anything special so far in his WWE career but now he’s headlining a pay per view against Randy Orton. While the victory was a bit confusing, we now have some more details on the motive behind it.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by way of Wrestlinginc.com, Mahal is being pushed so strong as a way to help advance WWE in India. The country is seen as a potential major market for WWE and pushing Mahal was seen as a way of helping efforts there. This is also why he was paired with the Singh Brothers, who could be joined by Jeet Rama and Kishan Raftar, both of whom are currently in NXT.

Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise in the world and it’s not exactly a bad idea. I highly doubt Mahal will win the Smackdown World Title but it’s not out of the question to see him get a solid upper midcard run out of it. WWE is in need of fresh blood and maybe Mahal can be part of that fresh blood.
