What could have been. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, the competition for television time can be one of the more intense aspects of the company. Various wrestlers are all but guaranteed television time, but there are going to be a larger handful of wrestlers battling for the rest of the time. A recent release freed up some time, and now we know what was planned for him in the first place.
Last week, Steve Cutler was released from his WWE contract in a surprising move. Cutler had been teaming with Wesley Blake as the Knights Of The Lone Wolf, a pair of lackeys for King Corbin. That is the kind of idea that you can see on an almost regular basis in wrestling and Cutler/Blake would have been fine in the role. So what did WWE have planned for them?
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE’s plans for the trio was to feud against Rey Mysterio, Dominick Mysterio and Murphy. Corbin has been feuding with the Mysterios as of late and Murphy had been in a romantic relationship with Rey’s daughter Aalyah, though neither has been on television this year. There is no word on what Blake will be doing after Cutler’s release.
Opinion: This is something that makes quite a bit of sense and I could have gone for it as a perfectly acceptable midcard feud. I still feel sorry for Blake, whose luck has been almost nothing but bad in almost the last year. Hopefully he gets to do something and just have a chance at making his career work. Other than that though, everyone else should be fine, including Murphy given how talented he is.
