It could work. You can have a lot of feuds in wrestling for a variety of different reasons. A story needs the right reason to have people fighting or it doesn’t quite work. Some of these things are a lot better than others, but sometimes you get into a story that might be a little more uncomfortable. That was the case last week and now we know where things are going with the story.
Last week on SmackDown, Jeff Hardy was arrested and accused of drunk driving, resulting in Elias being injured. It seemed that something wasn’t going as it seemed and Hardy was released from custody that same night. There was one major suspect in the entire situation, as Sheamus had been complaining about Hardy for weeks. Things changed the following week and now there is a goal in sight.
During this week’s SmackDown, Hardy vs. Sheamus was announced for Backlash on June 21. This came after Hardy accused Sheamus of staging the whole situation and attacking him last week. Sheamus called Hardy a junkie and triggered a brawl, with Sheamus leaving Hardy laying. The two have met before, with Hardy defeating Sheamus in the first round of the Intercontinental Title tournament.
It was a big fight. Check out how we got here:
Opinion: This is the most logical way to go and it wasn’t exactly shocking to see the match set up. I’m still not wild on the idea of running a story built around Hardy’s sobriety issues, though this week did make it clear that he hadn’t done anything in the first place. The match should be good if they are given time, which should be the case on the pay per view. It’s a logical match though and Hardy could be moving on up.
