You have to plan these things out. The idea of using celebrities in wrestling goes back a long way. It makes sense in theory: wrestling exists in its own universe and having someone famous come in from outside could make for some unique situations. If the person can get in the ring and do something, it’s even better. That is the case with AEW at the moment and it turns out that the plans have been in place for a long time now.

Earlier this week on Dynamite, AEW announced that former Heavyweight Champion of the world and WWE Hall of Famer Mike Tyson would be appearing at Double Or Nothing on May 23 to present the first ever TNT Title. This is quite the get for AEW as Tyson is still a well known name and a longtime wrestling fan. So how long has this been in the works and what caused it in the first place?

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Tyson’s appearance at Double Or Nothing 2020 was planned all the way back at Double Or Nothing 2019. Tyson was in attendance at the 2019 edition and was so impressed that he wanted to do something with AEW in the future. There is no word on if Tyson is going to be doing anything else with AEW beyond his appearance at Double Or Nothing.

Tyson has been around. Check out some of his previous wrestling appearances:

Opinion: I know Tyson might not be the biggest star in sports anymore but he is certainly someone who is going to get some attention on AEW. That is what they need at the moment as the company is still relatively new and they don’t have the kind of mainstream appeal that WWE has so far. This won’t change it overnight, but it might be a step in the right direction.

How will Tyson do in AEW? Will he do anything else with the company? Let us know in the comments below.
