They’re branching out. Wrestling occupies a weird place in the world of pop culture as there are only so many ways to escape the fact that it is sports entertainment. That leaves it in a unique location between a soap opera and a sport while also touching on various other places in between. Every now and then some wrestlers will get to branch out and that is the case again.
Next month, the WWE Network is moving over to the Peacock streaming service, which could shake things up in a big way for WWE. The move brings WWE further under the NBC/Universal umbrella which means that they are going to be tied into a few other areas in the family. This includes some WWE stars appearing elsewhere, and now we are going to be seeing it again.
According to Bleacher Report, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte have been confirmed for an appearance in the Peacock revival of the 1980s series Punky Brewster. The two will appear in a WWE themed episode, with the series debuting on February 25. There is no word on if there will be any additional WWE stars in the episode. This comes after news of the appearances was rumored in December.
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that comes up every now and then and it is often cool to see. Yes they are playing themselves in a wrestling themed episode but there is nothing wrong with wrestling getting a little extra attention. I’m not sure if this is going to get any extra eyes on WWE, but it is nice to see the two companies getting a little bit closer like this, as it could help in the long term.
