So long and farewell. If there’s one thing WWE is overrunning with, it’s TV announcers. With three each on “Monday Night Raw”, “Smackdown Live” and “NXT”, there are almost as many people doing commentary than there are in any of the tag divisions. As it turns out though, one of them seems to be ready to walk away from WWE again.
According to a post on his Twitter and confirmed by WWE.com, John Bradshaw Layfield is leaving his position as an announcer on “Smackdown Live” to dedicate more time to his charity work. Layfield has founded Beyond Rugby Bermuda to help children stay off the streets. This was his second stint as a WWE commentator, the first of which ran from 2006-2008 and the latter of which ran from 2012-2017.
That how he’s leaving. Here’s how he got there. Dig that hair too.
JBL's WWE Debut
Opinion: I’m not big on Layfield’s commentary most of the time though he was hysterical when he would go on a rant about something. Some of his jabs at fellow commentators were great as well with “Byron, if you were on life support I would pull the plug to charge my iPhone” being a gem. All I can say though is please don’t let David Otunga replace him. I can’t take that.
Did you like Layfield’s time as commentator? Who do you want to replace him? Let us know in the comments below.
