The more things change. There have been a lot of changes in wrestling over the last year with a lot of different promotions taking some steps forward and up the ladder. That’s a good thing for a lot of wrestlers as they get a chance to showcase what they can do on a bigger stage. This includes some shows that are under the WWE umbrella and we may be in for a specific change in the near future.

Despite not even being around for three years yet, the WWE United Kingdom Championship is one of the most hotly contested in all of wrestling. There have only been three champions so far but almost an equal amount of Matches of the Year. No other title comes close to that level in such a short period of time but not something might be changing it up a little bit.

According to PWInsider.com, there have been discussions of changing the name of the United Kingdom Championship to the NXT UK Championship. This would follow the WWE Cruiserweight Championship becoming the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. There is no word on when the title change would take place or how much attention would be made to the change should it take place.

The title has some awesome history. Check out a few big title matches:

Opinion: This is hardly the biggest surprise and I’m more surprised by the fact that it took so long to happen. WWE loves its branding and this is the kind of thing that they do every chance they can. The name change isn’t going to matter one way or another. What matters is how important the title is and how valuable it is made by the great matches and intense competition to hold it, which has never been a problem.
