It’s a long time coming. There are a lot of titles in wrestling and that means there are going to be a lot of champions. With so many of them around, a lot of them have stopped meaning as much as some others have over the years. One of the best way to get someone over is to give them a title, even though they have lost a bit of prestige. The first title win is still one of the most important moments for a wrestler though and that was the case again this week.

Braun Strowman is one of the biggest names in WWE today and has been for a very long time now. There is something to be said about someone his size who can move around in that way, all with the incredible charisma that comes with him. However, he has been snake bitten when it comes to titles, with only two Tag Team Titles to his name. Strowman had never been able to win a singles title, but that is no longer the case.

This week on SmackDown, Strowman defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to become the new Intercontinental Champion, marking his first singles title win in his WWE career. Strowman won the match with a running powerslam after failed interference from Sami Zayn. The win ends Nakamura’s title reign at just shy of seven months, which had been the longest title reign since Cody Rhodes’ reign from 2011-2012.

The champ is here. Check out how the title match went:

Opinion: This is LONG overdue but it’s nice to see Strowman finally win something without a partner. It might not be the best deal in the world but maybe Strowman can finally get away from his choker status. Maybe we can get somewhere with him for a change, but I don’t think it’s unfair to say that Strowman’s peak has passed without him winning the World Title. Hopefully he can someday, but at least this is a nice consolation prize.

What does this mean for Strowman? How long will he hold the title? Let us know in the comments below.
