More than just a trophy. Tournaments are the kind of thing that anyone can get into. It’s a simple idea of putting everyone into a field and seeing who the last entry standing is, with the winner getting a prize of some sort. That’s the kind of thing that you can explain to almost anyone and something that WWE loves. They wrapped one up tonight and now we know where it’s going.

Over the last few weeks, NXT has been running their annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. This is something that NXT has turned into a pretty good idea, as they are able to showcase a host of tag teams while also celebrating the legacy of Dusty Rhodes, who was incredibly influential in NXT. Now that the tournament is over though, we know something rather important.

This week on NXT, the Broserweights (Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne) won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, defeating the Grizzled Young Veterans in the finals. The win gives the Broserweights a shot at the NXT Tag Team Titles, currently held by Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong of the Undisputed Era, at Takeover: Portland on Sunday, February 16. The tournament marked the first time the Broserweights had ever teamed together.

They’re a new team. Check out how the finals went down:

Opinion: This is as good as anything else they could have done, though it’s interesting to see how the team went from brand new to winning. The tournament’s history has shown that NXT is willing to allow brand new teams to win the tournament instead of going with some established names. Also, this comes after Riddle was supposed to be in hot water backstage. Maybe it isn’t as bad as it seems?

Do you agree with the choice? Will they win the titles? Let us know in the comments below.
