So that’s the point. There have been a lot of celebrity appearances in wrestling over the years and some of them have been more successful than others. Sometimes a celebrity appearance can give a wrestler a nice rub and showcase them in a way that they could not do on their own. WWE has another idea in mind and if it winds up working out, it could be quite the payoff.
One of the higher profile stories from last weekend’s Royal Rumble was rapper Bad Bunny performing his song about Booker T. Later in the night, Miz destroyed Bunny’s DJ setup so Bunny attacked him as well. Things continued the next night on Monday Night Raw with Bunny bringing in Damien Priest to fight off Miz and John Morrison. It turns out that this is part of WWE’s plan.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea behind pairing Bunny and Priest is to give Priest a rub and elevate him in the Latino community. Bunny is a major star in the Latino community and hopefully the popularity will transfer to Priest if the two are friends in WWE. The two were shown speaking together in Spanish before their segment on Monday Night Raw. Bunny has also been rumored for a match at WrestleMania 37.
Opinion: I’ve heard far worse ideas and it is something that has worked in wrestling for decades. Bunny is a celebrity with some status and if he is able to bring some more eyes to a wrestler with a lot of potential, it is at least worth a try. Priest is someone who could be a big star in WWE but he is going to need something to get his foot in the door. If that foot is Bunny, then so be it.
