What could have been. The Coronavirus has changed the way everything works, both in the real world as well as in professional wrestling. That is going to be the case for a long time to come and unfortunately that has put the brakes on a lot of things that were scheduled to take place. This is certainly true in AEW and now we know what they had in mind had everything not been shaken up.
While it only started up last year, AEW has hit the ground running like few other promotions in history. They have tried all kinds of things in short order and it is great to see what they come up with every week. Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit, they have been confined to Daily’s Place for television and pay per views only, but they had some plans for something a little bit bigger before everything changed.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW’s original plan before the pandemic was to have their regular touring television and pay per views, plus about twenty live events a year. This would be about one live event every two weeks, with AEW not having any events during weeks when New Japan Pro Wrestling was running a major event as several AEW wrestlers would be working New Japan shows. There is no word on when AEW will resume touring.
What they have is still good. Check out what AEW has been doing as of late:
Opinion: That sounds like it could have had some serious potential and getting to see AEW in person does sound like a lot of fun. It is the kind of thing that could keep drumming up interest in the company, which is something that they can use at any time, but certainly at a time where they are still growing up. I’m not sure when they are going to be able to make it work but it could do both the fans and the company a lot of good.
