Game on. Wrestling and video games go hand in hand and it isn’t hard to see why. The entire point of wrestling is to buy into something that is not real and to get swept up with the concept. Video games allow fans to do just that but also control things as they choose. WWE has been involved in video games for decades and now they are going to have some company.

There have been all kinds of wrestling games over the years but WWF No Mercy is one of the games you will often hear listed among all of the others. The game was released over twenty years ago and still receives praise, making it one of the longest lasting games ever. That is the kind of praise you don’t see very often and now AEW is going to pick things up where No Mercy left off.

AEW held a live stream to announce the launch of AEW Games, with multiple games being announced. The main game will be released on consoles and is being developed by Yukes, the company which was behind No Mercy. The trailer includes footage of Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Hikaru Shida. No release date was announced.

Also announced was AEW Elite General Manager, a mobile game which will allow fans to choose their own matches and set up their own promotions. Finally, a casino game called AEW Casino: Double Or Nothing will be released in December. As a surprise, Hideyuki Iwashita, the director of No Mercy, was announced as having joined the project.

It’s a lot at once. Check out the entire stream, including game play footage:

Opinion: That’s quite a bit to announce and the casino game might be a bit much, but at the same time, the console game is what matters here. Hopefully they can put together something fun as it’s not like the WWE2K series is receiving the best reviews at the moment. This could work out quite well and AEW clearly has put some effort into this already. Just do something pretty good and it should work out.
