I’d call it a hit. WWE television has not been at its strongest in recent months and that is not the biggest surprise. After several months of not so great stories and angles, WWE was then confined to the Performance Center due to Coronavirus. The venue did not serve them very well, though it could have been much worse. However, things have gotten a bit better since their move to the Amway Center in August, and now they have a nice reward as a result.

Back at Summerslam in August, Roman Reigns made his surprise return to WWE television after about five months off. Soon after that, Reigns joined forces with Paul Heyman in a major heel turn, which resulted in Reigns getting the Universal Title back. It has been a successful story and now we know a little bit more about just how popular the show has been getting lately.

According to Showbuzz Daily, this week’s SmackDown drew the highest viewership since the WrestleMania 36 fallout show on April 10. The show’s overnight audience was 2.261 million viewers, based on 2.236 million viewers for the first hour and 2.286 million viewers for the second. The show was also won the night in the key demographic ratings. There is a chance that the numbers could be changed on Monday when more data comes in.

That’s a big number. Check out what caused it:

Opinion: Well done indeed with SmackDown drawing some very strong numbers, which means things are starting to pick up a good bit. Couple the Reigns story with Bayley vs. Sasha Banks, which drew rather well last week too, and SmackDown might be onto something. The Monday Night Raw audience is going to take a big hit thanks to Monday Night Football, so it could be SmackDown’s time to shine.
