They’re up next. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles have had an up and down history since their return in 2019. Above all else, one of the biggest problems has been keeping the division stocked with fresh teams. It seems that most of the time, the titles are being fought over by two women thrown together because they have nothing else to do. That may be the case again this time around.
This weekend’s Royal Rumble saw the team of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler regain the Women’s Tag Team Titles by defeating Asuka and Charlotte, who had teamed together as a surprise to win the titles at Tables, Ladders And Chairs in December. The win was their first serious match together and came not long after Baszler and Jax were thrown together. Now it is happening again, as a pattern certainly seems to be emerging.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Lana and Naomi won a triple threat match to earn a future shot at the Women’s Tag Team Titles by defeating Charlotte and Asuka and Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke. The win came when Naomi pinned Asuka after a distraction from Lacey Evans and Ric Flair. This was Naomi’s first match on Monday Night Raw since July 15, 2009 and only her second match since August 21, 2020.
It was a busy night. Check out the match and what Naomi and Lana had to say later:
Opinion: They really need to work on this problem for the division as you have a thrown together team taking the titles from another thrown together team with another thrown together team becoming #1 contenders. The one team who doesn’t get a big shot in there? Rose and Brooke, the only regular team out of the whole bunch. Does that make sense to anyone?
