And new! Titles are one of the most important things in all of wrestling, as you can get a feud out of a title with any combination. You don’t need any kind of personal issue or anything beyond the idea that someone has a title and someone else wants it. That has worked for years in wrestling and it worked just as well again this weekend at one of the biggest shows of the year.

The Women’s Tag Team Titles have been a weird situation since the titles were reintroduced to the WWE back in 2019. The women’s divisions have not exactly shown the ability to support two more titles, which has caused several thrown together, makeshift teams to dominate the title scene. That was the case again at the Royal Rumble, with two makeshift teams fighting over the titles.

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax regained the Women’s Tag Team Titles on the Royal Rumble Kickoff Show as they defeated Charlotte and Asuka to become two time champions. Charlotte had been Asuka’s surprise partner at Tables, Ladders and Chairs in December when the team won the titles. Jax and Baszler requested a rematch and won the titles back with interference from Ric Flair and Lacey Evans.

Opinion: This is the only thing that could have happened as there was no reason to keep the titles on a team with no history and rather limited chemistry. Jax and Baszler may not be the best team, but at least they do feel like a team. Charlotte and Asuka have barely appeared together on television outside of matches, making you wonder why they won the titles in the first place. At least their reign was short, so it could have been worse.
