Retirement comes for everyone. Wrestling is a weird sport when you compare it to almost all of the others. There are very few mainstream athletes who make it into their 40s, but wrestlers are a little bit of a different breed. In their case, a career can go on for years longer, with some wrestlers making it into their 60s and 70s while still competing. One of the older wrestlers is finally hanging it up though.

The 1980s were the glory days of tag team wrestling with more awesome teams than anyone knew what to do with. That was the case in both of the major promotions, as well as in the smaller areas. Some teams went back and forth between several companies, with the most talented standing out in a big way. One half of an incredible team is finally finishing up his career.

In a post on Facebook, Bobby Fulton, best known as part of the Fantastics, announced his retirement from the wrestling industry, effective immediately. Fulton has announced that he will be no longer wrestling, nor running independent events. This comes less than a month after Fulton announced that he was cancer free after being diagnosed with throat cancer last year. Fulton wrestled as half of the Fantastics mainly with Tommy Rogers, though his brother Jackie Fulton occasionally filled in for Rogers.

Opinion: The Fantastics were my favorite NWA tag team so this is a sad one in a lot of ways. Fulton was an incredibly talented wrestler but he seems to want to go out this way and there’s nothing wrong with that. You don’t stay in an industry for over forty years without loving it in a lot of ways and that seems to be the case with Fulton. Hopefully he’s happy in retirement, as he made a lot of people happy over the years.
