It’s the next step. Back at WrestleMania 36, Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar in the main event. McIntyre has held the title ever since and shows no signs of slowing down. His reign as champion has gone fairly well but he is starting to run out of challengers. Now though WWE may be attempting to bring in someone from outside the wrestling world to face McIntyre on a major stage.
One of the more interesting moments in wrestling is when an athlete comes in from an outside sport to try their hand. Some of these can be incredibly successful and every now and then you get something special. Various top level athletes from different sports have tried their hand at wrestling and now we might be seeing the biggest name in another sport coming to wrestling for a second time.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering a match between McIntyre and boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. There is no date set for the match, but it would take place either at WrestleMania or a Saudi Arabia show. The two have exchanged challenges via Twitter in recent months. Fury has wrestled for WWE before, appearing at Crown Jewel 2019 where he defeated Braun Strowman via countout.
Both have been in the ring before. Check out what they can do:
Opinion: I know Fury is a big deal and I can understand WWE wanting a piece of his stardom, but is there that much interest in seeing him wrestle another match? It wasn’t like the Strowman match was the greatest thing in the world in the first place, but WWE would be crazy to not go after him if they can afford him. Fury is a mainstream star and that’s something WWE loves, as they should.
What do you think of the idea? Will Fury wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.
