There were a lot to pick from. Championships have always been a major part of wrestling and they always will be. It really is a simple concept: wrestlers want to compete to be the best and a big gold/silver belt makes it clear who the best is. That is always the case in WWE, where they have quite a few titles. Several of them were being defended on Monday, but how did the champions do?
This week’s Monday Night Raw was announced as Championship Monday, featuring four title matches. That is reaching pay per view levels of title matches, a near unheard of situation for any given week of television. It made Monday Night Raw feel like a must see show, which was likely the idea behind such a move. That is a good idea, and now we know how the champions fared.
Championship Monday say one of the four titles change hands, though the title change was not in a scheduled match. During the show, Asuka defeated Charlotte to retain the Raw Women’s Title, the Street Profits successfully defended the Raw Tag Team Titles against the Viking Raiders and the IIconics failed to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles from Bayley and Sasha Banks. Akira Tozawa defeated R-Truth to win the 24/7 Title, though their scheduled match never began as Bobby Lashley attacked R-Truth. Tozawa won the match by pinning the unconscious R-Truth under 24/7 rules.
It was a busy night. Check out the title matches:
Opinion: That is quite the night as you don’t see so many titles being defended on almost any regular television show, or even a lot of pay per views for that matter. They almost had to have one title change in there and while it wasn’t conventional, it also doesn’t hurt anything either. I can go for more Tozawa though so at least the title change that we got was a good pick.
