A last minute opening. Wrestling can change at the drop of a hate with all kinds of things getting in the way. Sometimes it’s a last second change of storyline or sometimes it’s due to a travel issue. The hardest to predict though is an injury, as you never know when someone might need to be swapped out at the last second to change things up a bit. That is the case today.
As announced on WWE.com, Elias has suffered an injury and is unable to compete in the King of the Ring semifinals against Chad Gable. However, according to PWInsider.com, a replacement is expected to be named to face Gable. There is currently no word on who Gable will be facing or whether or not Elias’ injury is legitimate. The winner of the SmackDown Live match will face Baron Corbin in the finals at Clash of Champions.
Gable has worked hard to get here. Check out whatever his mystery opponent is in for:
Opinion: This screams storyline to me as the likely final was going to be Corbin vs. Gable. I don’t think fans were going to buy into that as an option so something had to be changed at the last minute. If that is the case then they are onto something with the idea, but I’m not sure who they are going to substitute in. There is always the chance of a surprise NXT call up, or sending in Ricochet as he did not get pinned on Monday Night Raw.
