BREAKING: AEW Strips CM Punk Of World Title, Vacates Trios Titles, New Champions Coming

There they go. The biggest wrestling story of the wrestling weekend has been the backstage brawl that took place after AEW All Out. CM Punk and producer Ace Steel brawled with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks as a result of comments Punk made during the pay per view media scrum. There was guaranteed to be fallout and now we know what has happened.

AEW President Tony Khan opened this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite and announced that Punk and the Elite had been stripped of the AEW World and AEW Trios Titles respectively. There was no reason given for the titles being stripped. New Trios Champions would be crowned later in the night on Dynamite while a tournament would be held for the vacant AEW World Title, with the finals taking place at Grand Slam on September 21.

Opinion: There’s the bombshell. You knew there was going to be some kind of a fallout and now we know just how bad things got. While I could certainly go without another AEW tournament, at least it is going to be done in two weeks at a huge show. As for the Trios Titles, I don’t think you can go from one tournament straight into another so this is about as good as they could have done.
