They have a target. The rise of AEW has started the first series of bidding wars in wrestling in a very long time. You might get one every now and then but with the two big companies, along with several of the smaller ones, going after talent, there are all kinds of ways to get more talent on more shows. One name is currently on AEW’s radar and it could be a valuable pickup.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is interested in bringing in Davey Boy Smith Jr, as are both Pro Wrestling Noah and All Japan Pro Wrestling. Smith left New Japan Pro Wrestling in June and is currently under contract to Major League Wrestling. However, the same is true of both Jimmy Havoc and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, both of whom have been featured in AEW. There is no reported interest from WWE, where Smith wrestled 2006-2011.
Smith can be a heck of a power man. Check out some of his work in MLW:
Opinion: Smith is a heck of a power guy and hopefully he gets to be out there on a big stage and showing how good he really can be. The man is a powerhouse with a great look and experience. That’s something rather valuable and someone who could offer a lot to a bunch of promotions. Any of the companies interested in him could use him and he seems to have his pick of employers.
Where do you think Smith will wind up? Who do you want to see him face? Let us know in the comments below.
