I’d say he’s earned it. There are a lot of wrestlers on all of the WWE rosters but only one Brock Lesnar. There has never been another wrestler like him in wrestling and WWE gives him some extra special treatment a lot of the time. This may not sit well with everyone but Lesnar has certainly earned his status over the years. He has quite the athletic background and now it is time to honor that as well.

As you probably know, Lesnar is one of the most decorated contact sports athletes in wrestling history. Not only has he dominated professional wrestling, but he is also a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. A lot of this success came as a result of his amateur wrestling background though, as Lesnar was an All American and NCAA Heavyweight Champion at the University of Minnesota. They haven’t forgotten him and now he is receiving some extra attention.

As announced on the University of Minnesota Wrestling’s Twitter account, Lesnar will be honored on Friday, the twentieth anniversary of his National Championship victory. Lesnar will serve as an honorary Minnesota coach as the team competes against the University of Wisconsin. Lesnar has worked with the University since retiring, even practicing with the team last year.

Lesnar has always been connected to Minnesota. Check him out as part of the Minnesota Stretching Crew against a pretty famous opponent:

Opinion: This is something that is rather cool to see. I know Lesnar may not be the most popular WWE wrestler at the moment but he was one heck of a college wrestler and deserves the attention and praise. I’m sure this is something special to him as he really was a successful college wrestler and seems to still have a strong connection to the school. Good for him and it is well deserved.
