There must be something in the water over at “Smackdown Live”. For the second time in two brand specific pay per views, a wrestler has been announced as unable to compete at the show less than a day before the event begins. According to the Wrestling Observer, Becky Lynch is off No Mercy with an unspecified injury. There is no word on how much additional time Lynch will miss.
Lynch, the reigning and inaugural Smackdown Women’s Champion, was scheduled to defend her title against Alexa Bliss. The injury much have been recent as Lynch performed on “Smackdown Live” earlier this week in a tag team match. Smackdown hasn’t had any house shows since this week’s TV show.
Lynch being off the show is a hit to the card but at least the card is already deep enough to absorb a loss like this. Assuming Lynch isn’t out for any extended period of time, the title match with Bliss can be taken care of as soon as she gets back, perhaps on a big TV show. This is disappointing, though hopefully it’s not the start of a trend with PPV matches being pulled at the last minute.
If for some reason Lynch has to be stripped of the title, what should happen to it and who should be the next champion? Let us know in the comments below.
